by Rizalie Anding Calibo
SIQUIJOR, July 23 (PIA) -- The local office of the Philippine National Police (PNP) intensifies its anti-criminality campaign and peacekeeping program through the full implementation of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action (Teams) in all six towns in the province.
PNP Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Ernesto F. Agas said the concept on anti-criminality campaign has been introduced and adopted in 2009 yet full implementation of the barangay peacekeeping operations (BPO) is only made this year with the organization of BPATs and training of barangay officials composing them.
He said that under the BPO concept, their main actors are the BPATS that are composed of trainees from the youth, academe, farmers or peasants, fishermen, transport, labors and other sectors in the community.
BPAT training of barangay officials started in Enrique Villanueva on June 28 to 30, followed by Maria on July 5 to 7 and another on July 20-22 in Larena, Siquijor.
Lazi is scheduled on July 26 to 28, while the training for the remaining towns of San Juan and Siquijor is set in August.
"Our timetable is to finish the training in all six towns within August," Agas said adding that PNP targets to hit the youth and the academe by the end of the year to maximize their time during long vacation in December.
Once totally implemented, this will surely reduce the emergence of various criminalities within the area of responsibility, Agas said.
