Siquijor allots over P16M disaster fund for 2013

SIQUIJOR, Jan 30 (PIA)—Siquijor province has allocated over P16 milliion for its disaster fund this year.

Of these sum, 30% (or P4,809,340.35) will be used for quick response activities, while the 70% (or P11,221,794.15) was allocated for disaster preparedness and mitigation, said Arturo Pacatang, executive officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Council (PDRRMC), in a recent meeting.

Preparedness activities include trainings on Water Search and Rescue (WaSAR), mountain search and rescue (MoSAR), stress debriefing seminar, firefighting and mass casualty/incident training.

Seventy percent (70%) of the budget will be used for operation and maintenance of disaster management center and rescue boats and procurement of supplies, etc.

Pacatang said balances from previous years (P15.4 million in 2011 and P4.6 million 2012) were used for cash assistance to victims of typhoon Pablo. A total of P10,782,926.30 were used for the rehabilitation and reconstruction infrastructure projects and facilities damaged by the typhoon.
